Latest stable build for 3.0.0 ?

Laurent Vaills
Hi,

I am using Bitronix 2.1.x in a project and I'm quite satisfied with it.
However, we are currently experimenting some performance problems. Through some profiling, we noticed that we are often blocked within the Bitronix journal and XAPool; which seem to be already known.
So I wanted to give a try to Bitronix 3.0 as it seems you have adressed these problems.
I just cloned the code from Github (master branch) and unfortunately there is one test in failure :
Failed tests:   testPrepareFailureRollbackFailure(bitronix.tm.twopc.Phase1FailureTest): null expected:<...Exception(XAER_RMERR[]) - resource 2 prepa...> but was:<...Exception(XAER_RMERR[ - ]) - resource 2 prepa...>

I wanted to know when was the last successful build so I can check it out and build it locally to try it. But unfortunately the travis setup is not available any more : https://www.travis-ci.org/bitronix/btm .

By the way, the link to the Nabble archives list on http://docs.codehaus.org/display/BTM/Support is broken. The right link seems to be : http://bitronix-transaction-manager.10986.n7.nabble.com/ .

Regards,
Laurent

Hi Laurent,

The build is currently green over on github (the travis-ci url changed).  You can try a build again.
What version of Java are you building on, and what OS?  Some tests are a bit timing sensitive,
but we've cranked up the tolerances of most of those to avoid sporadic build failures.

Your email spurred us, and we're targeting a release for end of November now.  But it will be
a release candidate (RC) not a GA (general availability) release.  After it bakes for a month or
two with the community testing it, we will address any issues found and put out an official GA,

Regards,
Brett

Re: Latest stable build for 3.0.0 ?

Hi Brett,

Thanks for your answer. Good to know that a RC is available soon.

Here is my setup :
$ uname -a
Linux xxxxxxxx 3.11.0-12-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 9 16:20:46 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 13.10
Release: 13.10
Codename: saucy
$ java -version
java version "1.7.0_45"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode)

I just updated my local git repo and executed the following command :
$ mvn clean install -Pjava7

but unfortunately I have the same failure :
Failed tests:   testPrepareFailureRollbackFailure(bitronix.tm.twopc.Phase1FailureTest): null expected:<...Exception(XAER_RMERR[]) - resource 2 prepa...> but was:<...Exception(XAER_RMERR[ - ]) - resource 2 prepa...>

I imported the project into Eclipse and ran the tests through a "Run as JUnit test" and everything worked fine. I then tried to run a "Maven install" through Eclipse : and it also failed.

How can I help more ?

Regards,
Laurent

Good news.  We're scheduled to put out a RC later this month, but seeing as how you are
running from git, you basically have it.  We would be interested in any issues you run into,
especially in contrast to the 2.1.x release (ie. regressions).

Brett

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 13.10
Release: 13.10
Codename: saucy
$ java -version
java version "1.7.0_45"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode)

I just updated my local git repo and executed the following command :
$ mvn clean install -Pjava7

but unfortunately I have the same failure :
Failed tests:   testPrepareFailureRollbackFailure(bitronix.tm.twopc.Phase1FailureTest): null expected:<...Exception(XAER_RMERR[]) - resource 2 prepa...> but was:<...Exception(XAER_RMERR[ - ]) - resource 2 prepa...>

I imported the project into Eclipse and ran the tests through a "Run as JUnit test" and everything worked fine. I then tried to run a "Maven install" through Eclipse : and it also failed.

How can I help more ?

Regards,
Laurent

Regards,
Brett

Laurent
